Project Brief

This dissertation research explores design strategies that promote children’s motivation, engagement, and positive emotional experiences in educational spaces. Through a comprehensive review of academic literature, interviews and case studies including Scandinavian school models. The study examines the impact of play-based learning, flexible environments, biophilic design, and social collaboration on children’s well-being and learning outcomes. The research highlights the importance of aligning educational space design with pedagogical goals, sustainability, and student-centered approaches. The findings offer evidence-based recommendations for designers and education professionals to create adaptable, inclusive, and future-focused learning environments that support children’s holistic development.

Report Spreads

The design of this report embraces a playful and vibrant aesthetic to reflect the focus on children and educational spaces. Primary colours red, yellow, and blue are used throughout to create an engaging and energetic visual experience. Geometric shapes are incorporated into the layout to add a sense of creativity, reinforcing the themes of play and exploration central to the report’s content. This design approach aims to make the report both visually appealing and aligned with its subject matter.
